Tips and Tricks for Managing Incontinence

This resource is to help parents who are looking for the best possible continence management solution for little ones as they go to school and wearing nappies is not ideal :)

Looking to avoid nappies at school?

Our team received this enquiry from a mum in the community and thought it would be a super resource to create and share:

My 6 year old daughter has started school and is wearing the bonds incontinence undies (100mls liner). She is wetting through multiple times a day and changing clothes. We have tried using a bigger liner, but it's uncomfortable for her!

Since we don't want her wearing a nappy to school can you suggest alternatives?

The MyCareSpace team put the call out and there were some clear winners:

Eenee waterproof undies with compostable inserts

  • Looks like undies.
  • These products allow a child to go to the toilet as normal when they are able to and prevent compromising situations when they can't make it.
  • Can contain a full bladder release without leaking (note: this is from parents who provided their recommendations, we have not tested this ourselves.)
  • For a child with sensory issues, the Eenee ones are better
  • They need to be firm fitting so the insert doesn’t move around. They have measurements for sizing which seem to be accurate.
  • They also have gripper pants which are the same thing but with Velcro so the insert can’t move. We’ve had no issues with the insert moving with the regular undies.

Day and Night Kids all in one pull up undies 600ml

  • Looks like undies.
  • Can contain a full bladder release without leaking (note: this is from parents who provided their recommendations, we have not tested this ourselves.)
  • These products allow a child to go to the toilet as normal when they are able to and prevent compromising situations when they can't make it.

Night Time Incontinence

We hand a number of people recommend products bedwetting:

TIPS

"We used to put sheets and absorbent pad on the bed and then put another set over the top - that way in the middle of the night you only have to take off the set that is wet and you are ready to get young person back into their pyjamas and straight back into bed - very useful on very cold nights"

"We used to put a plastic mattress protector on upside down - we would layer the sheets up so an upside down mattress protector then a sheet, then a mattress protector and sheet etc so when the sheet was wet, we just took a layer off and went back to bed."
